Who is Venuswithoutlove?

Venuswithoutlove, AKA Venus - was born into a mixed race family growing up in Surrey. She spent her adolescent years exploring the forests near her home with her friends, searching for fairies, climbing trees and reading fantasy books. Her mum Beverley grew up in Croydon, playing clarinet for her local orchestra, and playing reggae, soul, and disco records on loud speaker around the house; and her dad, born in Romford, was a 70’s punk gig kid, so Venus was exposed to everything from The Rolling Stones to Donna Summer.

Her parents love for art meant they encouraged Venus at every creative turn; booking her piano lessons from a young age with a family friend (Sarah Weston) who eventually helped her hone her songwriting abilities and taught her proper singing technique, and she took particular interest in Jazz, Neo-soul, and hip-hop artists like Nina Simone, MF Doom, and Jimmy Hendrix.

Venus met her best friend’s and artistic partners at 16; producer Milan (AKA) PlaygroundTalk, and videographer Sophie Moore - the trio made various projects together whilst in college imagining that one day they would release their work. Finally feeling the time was right in 2023 when they created and released the song “Just wan Fuck” recorded in their friend BSMNT J’s bedroom, with a music video filmed in their student accommodation.

Venus creates music that brings a feeling of honesty and organised chaos, often taking inspiration from her favourite things including fairytale’s, psychedelic imagery, and fashion, to create her own world within each project that the listener can close their eyes and step into. She feels that the most important element of her art is the ability to provide escapism.
